If you ever wandered around Passaic Park, New Jersey, chances are you stumbled onto a little place called the Loop Lounge. Little in name only. From 1985 to 2016, this was a heartbeat of music, culture, and community, one that made waves locally and even nationally. A Vision Becomes Reality

The Loop Lounge was the brainchild of Bruce Ciccone, who later went on to manage the Wellmont Theater in Montclair. In 1985, he bought the spot at 373 Broadway with a simple idea: build a space where all kinds of music lovers could come together. Focusing on DJs at a time when that wasn't the norm, Ciccone made the club a melting pot of sounds and people.

The Place Where Music Met Soul

What made the Loop Lounge special? Maybe it was the mix of tunes, everything from alt-rock and post-punk to electronic beats and hip-hop. Or maybe it was the crowd, a mix of folks who just wanted good music and good company. The setup helped too: a chill bar up front, a dance floor in back. You could start the night with a casual drink and end it dancing like nobody's watching.

Unforgettable Nights and Legendary Acts

Over the years, the Loop Lounge hosted serious talent, bands like Nine Inch Nails, Faith No More, and even My Chemical Romance before they hit it big. Picture seeing those acts on a fold-out stage, the energy raw and close. And the DJs, Del, Glen Jones, Bob Dooley, kept the dance floor alive with sets that blended genres in ways that just worked.

The Golden Years

The '80s and '90s were something else at the Loop. It wasn't just a club, it was a cultural hub. Alongside other iconic New Jersey venues like City Gardens, the Melody Bar, and the nearby Capitol Theatre, the Loop Lounge was part of an alternative music movement that pulled people together. Punk rockers, goth kids, electronic fans, all under one roof, all getting along.

The Final Encore

After Ciccone sold the place in 2007, the Loop Lounge hung on for nearly another decade before closing in 2016. It was the end of an era, but the memories are still very much alive.

Ciccone didn't let the spirit fade. He started hosting "Infinite Loop" reunion events, bringing together old friends and new faces to celebrate what made the club special, a mix of nostalgia and fresh energy. As Ciccone put it, "You knew... you could be yourself."
